4th day in Spain - teacher training

Thursday - 16th March

The 4th day started off sunny and very promising. We had two interesting and international lessons. First of all, the first part of the lesson was held by the Italian team and the second part of the lesson was preceded by the Croatian team.

We saw different and interesting learning methods which helped the students to reveal their creativity, ability to work in teams and interpret the text by using different teaching and learning methods:
1. Interview with the author ( Oscar Wilde)
2. Dialogues
3. Vocabulary practice
4. Drawing and acting

Later on, the principal of the school conducted a tour at school so that we could get the sense of environment and school life.

In the afternoon, Lithuanian and Hungary teachers held another lesson, in which they involved students into their planned activities. They drew the chosen scenes from the tale of Oscar Wilde 'The selfish giant' and acted them out.

We ended the day by visiting the Ruidera Lakes. What really astonished us was the stunning view of the place. The day was full of wonder.

3rd day in Spain - teacher training

Wednesday- 15th March

Today we left Tomelloso by bus to go to Madrid.

Here, in the morning, we've been received in the school of Santa Joaquina de Vedruna.

This is the biggest of the 31 schools which are part of FEC. Here we had a lecture on teachers career in Spain inside FEC, the main thing being continuos training and evaluation aimed to improve one's
competences in different areas, such as ICT's, tutorship, CLIL and so on.

We also met here two colleagues and exchanged ideas with them while visiting the school after the lecture.

Afterwards, we went to the city center for a stroll  from the literary neighborhood  up to Puerta del Sol and then had lunch in a restaurant where we ate typical Asturian food.

Then we continued our visit going to Plaza Mayor and to the Royal Palace  before coming back to Tomelloso where we arrived, tired and worn out but happy for the beautiful day, at 9:30 p.m.

2nd day in Spain - Teacher training

                        

After a nice breakfast, we gathered at the host school  where Turkish and Spanish teams started to prepare for their joined lesson on The Selfish Giant.

At nine o'clock the lesson began with the 9th graders. The Spanish teacher did the speaking part of the lesson working with the framework of gamification. Since the story had been read previously by the students they started working in groups elicitating the plot and the characters. They used 'see-think-wonder' method.

 As the following tasks students were working on a jumbled text. In the second part of the lesson drama section was facilitated by the Turkish team. Students were asked to take part in three different activities: first they had to choose a scene, act it out then after a few moments they had to freeze the scene. Secondly a 'hot seat' game was played: a character- the giant - sat in the middle of the circle, and other pupils kept asking questions. The pupil in the middle  answered as the character of the giant. Last but not least they dramatised a scene from the story on the basis of a script. 

After a five minute break the teachers came together to have a project meeting about different topics. First we had to agree on the different workshops which will be carried out during the next student exchange in Italy. We have also clarified the needed preparation as well as the would be tasks, deadlines and responsibilities. We had some words about revising the roles and deadlines related to the creative writing tasks and the exercises will have been completed by the end of this project year according to the project timeline.

After a short coffe break Juan José Pagán Casanova the headmaster of the host school shared some information about the upcoming project programs. He also gave us a short presentation related to the unique features of his school.

After this tiring morning session we enjoyed a delicious lunch with our partners.

In the afternoon we had a chance to discover the secrets ot town of Tomelloso despite of the terrible windy weather. But we had no rain at least .

2nd Teacher Training Event, Spain 2017

Day 1 - Monday, March 13

We landed after light turbulence at Barajas airport in Madrid. It was a sunny and windy day, and we were drinking coffee and tea before finally seeing a familiar face. Actually, she saw us. It was Francesca, whom we met last year at a meeting in Spain. We were introduced to her colleague Andrea and we liked him at first sight. When the Turkish team arrived, we hugged and kissed and met their headmaster, a nice man who likes football (Fenerbahce)!

The highway led us through fertile fields full of olive trees and vine. We arrived in Tomelloso at 21.30 and having seen a smiling face of our host Ana Maria made the tiredness disappear. Soon we were enjoying in warm and delicious dishes of this fertile region Castilla-La Mancha. After dinner we fell asleep very easily in a comfortable hotel Altora.

Our enthusiasm could not be affected even by a rainy morning. A welcome speech was held by our dear host, the headmaster of Colegio Sto. Tomas de Aquino La Milagrossa, who is called Casanova by Vesna, and unfortunately there is not enough space here for his full name. He was followed by other speakers, local and regional politicians, led by a kind mayor. It was time for a coffee break. It is always nice to have a cup of coffee and a chat with old friends. After a short break it was time to focus on work. To commemorate the 30^th anniversary of Erasmus projects each partner and some guest schools presented their projects .  We enjoyed the presentations and it turned out again that we have a lot in common.  The beauty is in diversity.

We would stay and chat but the schedule is unrelenting. Ana Maria is telling us it is time to visit Vigen de las Vinas (Wine Cooperative). It is an immense vinery, one of the biggest in Europe and in the world. Some facts made us stare in amazement, such as the fact that they buy 10 millions (yes, MILLIONS) kilos of grapes in one day from Tomelloso vicinity only, and they fill 3000 bottles of wine per hour! In the vinery there are also an ethnographic museum and a modern art gallery which makes an interesting synergy. 

If you think this is the end of today’s programme, you are wrong. Back at school we participated in the most interesting activity of the day: drama games. Who says adults are not able to relax and play like children? Somebody was acting a chair, another an astronaut and we all jumped, clapped our hands, sang counting rhymes, played other games and enjoyed it just like children do. Therefore, we are looking forward to next days of camaraderie, learning and games with childlike curiosity.

p.s.  having so much fun we don’t need the sunshine, but if it is possible, dear Lord, send us some sunny moments for others to keep warm. Everybody knows we are from Hvar island and used to unreliable weather conditions.

Reading competition on the 200th birthday of Arany János

On the 200th anniversary of Arany János - the Hungarian poet our school is named after- we organised a reading competition for the 7th and 8th grade primary school students of Százhalombatta. We worked on William Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, which was translated into Hungarian by Arany János.
On the other hand, students read the text in English in an easier version and competed in groups of four completing several tasks based on the common reading.

The participants completed 8 tasks ranging from quiz questions through crossword to matching original quotes with modernised ones. 

During the final activity each team was given a chapter from the text and they needed to create a wordcloud and an illustration to that part of the story and also needed to give a mini presentation using their created materials.

 It was a really enjoyable afternoon and our students could develop their communication and language skills while cooperating with their peers on various activities. We will try to organise events like this in the future as well!

Creative writing task 6

In this task students were told to  write a review of 100-150 words about a local public place in Their town; Using five senses (what they see, smell, feel, taste and touch); to describe the public place They also use at least ten (10) adjectives  Using both Past and Present tense! Using the helping materials attached for ideas, and other vocabulary as well!

For the fourth tasks the students needed to imagine the situation of applying for the job of Santa Claus, and write the application according to the given prompt: Write an advertisement of 50 - 100 words to present/sell yourself and your skills for the job of the Santa Claus. Use: - at least 3 adjectives - at least 3 adverbs - past, present and future tense. We have received 55 works and evaluated them based on the common assessment grid. The best pieces submitted:
